UC Davis Extension a Founding Partner in New Center for Sustainable Communities
DAVIS, Calif.— UC Davis Extension’s Land Use and Natural Resources Program is proud to be a founding partner in the recently launched California Center for Sustainable Communities, a multicampus effort led by UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, with partners at UC Berkeley’s Center for Resource Efficient Communities and UC Davis’ Institute of Transportation Studies.
The Center will bring together academics, policy-makers and practitioners from across the state to address California’s most pressing sustainability challenges. Using the 2011 Sustainable Communities Research Roadmap as a framework, the Center will assist in producing data, models, methods, tools and case studies to support the creation of more sustainable, energy-efficient communities.
“We are very excited to be a part of this ground-breaking Center and help identify needs and develop research that can assist California’s communities in becoming more sustainable,” said Jeff Loux, Ph.D., chair of UC Davis Extension’s Science, Agriculture and Natural Resources Department, who will lead UC Davis Extension’s participation. The Center is expected to become a national model and leader in sustainable communities’ research.
