The winners of the 2004 LA APA Planning Awards were honored at an awards banquet at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens on the evening of Wednesday, June 9th.

Located at the the confluence of the Arroyo Seco and the Los Angeles River, the L.A. River Center and Garden provided a splendid setting for the evening's ceremony, as attendees enjoyed a perfect Southern California evening in the center's lush courtyard.

Among the honorees were the Transportation and Land Use Collaborative of Southern California (TLUC) for it's Latino New Urbanism Conference and Dialogue Series based on Michael Mendez's provocative Master's thesis, and City of Los Angeles Department of City Planning, which produced Preservation Plan Workbook to guide historic preservation in the city.

Also awarded was the Distinguished Leadership Award for an Elected Official, which went to Los Angeles Councilmember Ed Reyes for his tireless efforts to improve the Northeast area of Los Angeles, including an initiative to restore the Los Angeles River for recreational uses.

A special thanks went to Los Angeles APA Board members Conni Pallini and Ben Hudson, for their extraordinary efforts organizing the evening's events.
