2003 LA APA Award Winners

The winners of the 2003 LA APA Planning Awards were honored at an awards banquet at the historic Southwest Museum in Los Angeles on the evening of Wednesday, June 11th.

Nestled in the hills of Mt .Washington along the Arroyo Seco in northeast Los Angeles, the Southwest Museum provided dynamic views of hillside homes in Highland Park, with the glimmering skyline of Downtown Los Angeles in the distance. Attendees also got a glimpse of the new MTA Gold Line light rail station at the base of museum drive, scheduled to open in July.

Among the honorees were the City of Los Angeles Department of City Planning, which was twice honored for its innovative website and training CD-ROM, and the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation and Sapphos Environmental, who were responsible for new design guidelines for another historic landmark in Los Angeles - the world famous Hollywood Bowl.

Also awarded was the Distinguished Leadership Award for an Citizen Contributor, which went to Linda Shahinian of Culver City for her tireless efforts as a Culver City Planning Commissioner and as President of the Planning and Community Development Department of the League of California Cities.

A special thanks went to Los Angeles APA Board members Kevin Keller and Conni Pallini, for their extraordinary efforts organizing the evening's events.
